The Tunisian Football Association sacked national team head coach Faouzi Benzarti  on October 20, almost three months after he was appointed.

Benzarti recently led the Carthage Eagles to qualify for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations ‘ AFCON’, however, the Tunisian FA decided to replace the coach with both Mourad Okbi and Maher Kanzari as interim managers and they will be in charge of the team for the upcoming encounters in November.

The Egyptian Football Association have announced that the Pharaohs will host Tunisia in Alexandria on the 16th of November for the fifth round of the AFCON qualifiers. Both teams have already sealed qualification for the tournament in Cameroon next summer.

Tunisia currently lead the qualifying group with 12 points. The Pharaohs lie in second place with 9 points, with the difference being Tunisia’s one-nil win over Egypt in the first round of the qualifiers last year.

Benzarti replaced former manager Nabil Maaloul in late July after Maaloul’s contract was terminated. The 68-year-old had already took charge of the Carthage Eagles twice, once in 2009 and the second time in 2011.

He also coached a number of big Tunisian and African clubs such as Esperance, Club Africain, Club Sportif Sfaxien and Etoile du Sahel.
