On a wet afternoon, Uganda and Tanzania played to a goalless draw at the Mandela National Stadium, Namboole on Saturday in Group L.

Both teams missed a couple of scoring opportunities with Uganda’s Joseph Ochaya fluffing his side’s best chance after only ten minutes.

Tanzania goalie Aisha Manula was the man of the match, denying Uganda on several occasions with responsive saves, notably a superb save off Emmanuel Okwi’s goalbound shot in the 20th minute.

Cranes captain Denis Onyango in goal was barely called to duty in the first 45 minutes but during the second half, the veteran shot-stopper stopped Taifa Stars dangerman Mbwana Samatta from close range in a one-on-one situation.

Samatta was again denied by the woodwork from a well taken free-kick from close range as the Cranes were let off the hook.

Tanzania coach Emmanuel Amuneke introduced Mussa Farid for Michael Gadiel Kamagi and Frank Domayo paved way for Hamid Mao but their presence barely made an impact.

Uganda on the other hand, brought on Patrick Henry Kaddu, William Luwagga Kizito and Edrisa Lubea for Joseph Ochaya, Emmanuel Okwi, Faruku Miya respectively failed to break the deadlock.

Uganda Cranes now has four points from two games with Tanzania on two points. Lesotho will face Cape Verde in the other Group L match on Sunday in Maseru.
