Uganda girls Humiliate Comoros 20-0 in Cosafa U-17

Uganda U-17 Girls’ national team humiliated Comoros 20-00 during a one sided COSAFA U-17 Girls Championship group A contest at the Anjalay Stadium, Mauritius on Tuesday.

Skipper Juliet Nalukenge continued with her scoring spree at the tournament scoring seven goals today to take her tally to 15 and regain the lead in the top scorers’ race.

Margaret Kunihira too was impressive on the day scoring five goals while Fauzia Najjemba and diminutive midfielder Shakira Nyinagahirwa added a double brace (four goals) and a hat-trick respectively.

Right-back Gillian Akadinda also spared time to move forward and get onto the score sheet in a one-sided affair.

Uganda led 14-00 by the half time break before the rest of the goals coming in the subsequent half.

A dominant display saw Uganda whitewash minnows Comoros winning the last group game 20-0 to eventually top group A.

The victory meant Uganda ascended to the summit of group A on superior goal difference scoring a total of 32 goals in three games, eleven more than Zambia who also finished with seven points.

‘We came in the match to score as many goals as possible and it’s what my players have done. Now all our focus in on semifinals. The other three teams may be good but we are better.’ Said Uganda Girls U17 head coach Ayub Khalifa

Nalukenge was named player of the match and also awarded a match ball. Najjemba, Nyinagahirwa, and Kunihira too were given match balls.

Uganda will face Botswana in the semifinals on Friday 26th September 2019.

Changes:

Ayub Khalifa made a double change immediately after the break when he brought on Sumayah Komuntale for Shakirah Nyinagahirwa and Moureen Nangonzi for Kevin Naklacwa. In the 70th minute, Catherine Nagadya came in for Samali Nakacwa.
