Uganda President Yoweri Museveni has given the Uganda Cranes players and technical bench a pat on the back for a good job done qulfying for Africa Cup of Nations 2019 by handing the team a cool 1 million US Dollars approximately UGS 3.7 Billion.

Museveni further cautioned the team against losing against neighbours Tanzania in the final game which should be a dead rubber tie while urging them not to be involved in alcoholism and womanizing.

Fufa president Moses Magogo confirmed that the players and technical staff that have been with the team in the entire campaign had each received the cash bonus on their bank accounts. He however didn’t divulge how much each would get or how the funds were wired from State house to their concerned parties’ accounts.

Fufa drafted a long list of the money beneficiaries and sent it to State House and sources intimated that Uganda Cranes captain Denis Onyango, the Ministry of Sports and Education and National Council of Sports (NCS) followed up the bonuses to the players and staff bank accounts.

Magogo said that since president Museveni started bailing out the Cranes, the team’s logistics and accommodation have significantly improved whereas the chatter planes have increased the motivation as Uganda swept through Afcon Group L without conceding, netting seven goals and qualifying for Cameroon with 13 points and a game to spare.

“Players have been getting their bonuses from Fufa throughout the campaign. The double win over Lesotho saw each player getting $6000 (Shs23m),” Magogo said at the weekly press conference at Mengo.

“The President told me to advise the players to use the money profitably, and I have done so.

“I’m sure when the current Cranes players retire, they will not be like the ones that come to break Fufa house glasses.”

Uganda qualified for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations – for the seventh time – after edging Cape Verde 1-0 at Namboole Stadium on Saturday courtesy of Patrick Kaddu 77th minute header.
