Libya beat Guinea 1-0 at the Stade Mustapha Ben Jannet in Monastir on Monday night to pick up their first win in Group A of their 2018 World Cup qualifying campaign.

Despite the victory Libya are still bottom of the group with three points from four matches, but only behind third-placed Guinea on goal difference.

Tunisia top Group A on nine points from three matches, followed by the Democratic Republic of Congo with six points. DRC will host Tunisia on Tuesday night in the other Group A clash.

In Monastir on Tuesday night, Libya were looking to avenge their 3-2 loss to Guinea which they suffered last week Thursday, and they did just that thanks to a 36th-minute goal from Hamdou Elhouni.

The match itself was not a very entertaining one with chances in front of goal very few and far between.

The only real opportunity fell to Libya midway through the first half and they took it after a clinical strike by Elhouni.

The second half saw Libya trying to defend their lead under huge pressure from the Guinea attack.

For the most part Libya’s defence stood firm and in the 63rd minute they were even reduced to 10 men following the sending off of Mohamed El Gadi after receiving a second yellow card.

Nonetheless, the Libyans weathered the storm of attack from Guinea and managed to hold on for their first win.
