Zamalek redo billboard after removing CAF logo

Egyptian club Zamalek have been forced to redo and hang a new billboard after CAF reprimanded them last week for using their logo without prior permission.

Zamalek put up a banner on their property in Giza district which declared them as the ‘Real Club of the 20th Century’  a jibe aimed their bitter rivals Al Ahly, but faced backlash from Africa’s football governing body CAF who requested in a letter that they pull down the billboard immediately.

On Sunday, a fresh billboard was hang up after a stern warning by the CAF in a communication sent to the club.

“Please be reminded that the CAF, owns, on an exclusive basis, any and all of the rights related to the usage of its logo and visual identity,” read a letter sent to the club.

“The club has used and placed, without any prior authorisation from the CAF, the CAF official logo on a banner within the club perimeters.

A previous billboard with the CAF logo has since been pulled down

“Consequently, the club is hereby summoned to immediately cease the abovementioned facts by removing the CAF logo from all banners… and to confirm to the CAF in a written reply, within 48 hours of the receipt of this letter, its full consideration and respect of the above subparagraphs.

“Failure to strictly comply with any of the requirements above will lead the CAF to take all necessary measures and actions against your club in order to safeguard the CAF’s rights and interests.”

Zamalek have since put up a new banner without the CAF logo but with the same message as the ‘Real Club of the 20th Century’ an accolade that was awarded to Al Ahly by CAF in the year 2000.
