Zamalek to resume training on Thursday

Egyptian giants Zamalek will today Thursday, resume training as they prepare for CAF Champions League semifinals.

The meeting of the Zamalek Club’s board which was held on Wednesday under the chairmanship of club president Mortada Mansour resolved that the team resume training.

According to a statement on club’s official website, the players will undergo swab test for Corona virus on Thursday, at the expense of the club and not at the expense of the Egyptian Football Association.

The board resolved also that team into a closed camp for 15 days at Borg El Arab in Alexandria, as determined by the technical staff led by the French coach, Patrice Carteron.

The board has also renewed the contract of Hazem Imam and extending the contract of Abdullah Juma, the left back.

Mansour, confirmed that the deals that were signed with them were presented to the coach, Cartier, who thanked the board of directors after all the names he had requested had been settled.

He added that important decisions have been taken with regard to the Zamalek channel, which will be announced soon.

CAF announced on Tuesday that Interclub competitions will resume in September after a long break due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

It is not yet clear however, if Zamalek will Participate in the Egyptian Premier League.

Zamalek keeper Mohamed Awad recently tested positive for Covid-19 prompting the teammates to boycott the return to League action.

Captains, Hazem Emam and Shikabala, delivered a statement on behalf of the squad saying that they refuse to resume the current Egyptian Premier League season under any circumstances.

The statement was sent to the club’s president Mortada Mansour, board members and manager Patrice Carteron.

The White Knights will face Moroccan giants Raja Athletic Club when the club Continental show piece resumes in September.Local rivals Al Ahly take on another Moroccan side in Wydad, with both semi-final games taking place over one leg rather than the usual home-and-away games.
