COSAFA Cup

Zambia in a risky test against Nambia in COSAFA last Eight

on

Zambia Vs Namibia

New Peter Mokaba Stadium

15:00hrs

It is a big game for…

Bestone Chambeshi: The Nkana coach comes with a lot of expectations after guiding the under 20 AFCON and his exploits at the under 20 World Cup last year. The performance of Bestone in this competition could cement a position at the national team with some role with the Association looking into hiring a full time head coach after Wedson Nyirenda stepped down.   Hence, another impressive performance here could still make him do some role with the national team.

Best stat…

It has been  four matches now for Zambia without a win. The last time they won a game was on 18th January 2018 when they defeated Ivory Coast 2-0 during the CHAN. After that Zambia has drawn with Namibia, Lost to Sudan, Drew with Zimbabwe and lost to South Africa, coming in a devastating 2-0 loss during the four nations tournament.

We have also seen changes with coaches and for the first time Zambia gets into a tournament without a coach as Beston is on acting basis. Actually, Beston is on contract of the COSAFA only

Remember when…

Namibia beat Zambia 2-1 on 26th October 2002. This was the first time Namibia had won against the Chipolopolo and that alone opened doors for Namibia to pick points against the Zambia National team.

 Players to watch…

The midfield looks well covered and I expect a better performance from Zambia with Kelvin Kampamba, Clatous Chama and Collins Kombe. It will also be interesting to see how Lazarous Kambole and Ronald Kampamba will perform upfront.

Past meetings…

Zambia has played Namibia 17 times winning 7 drawing 6 and lost 4. There has been no winner in the last three games between these two sides with draws and one win by Namibia. The last time Zambia beat Namibia was in 2015 on 3rd July in an international friendly were Zambia won 2-1.

Prediction

Too close call but Zambia has the capacity to win this game. Tiberius the defender playing with Buildcon believes it is another victory for Namibia and claims he knows much about the Zambia type of play with his presence in the Lusaka Dynamos team.

I think this game will get into extra time and possibly in penalties as Beston learns the trade of his newly assembled team.
