Zambia have cancelled their friendly against Ethiopia that was planned for 27th May in Addis Ababa due to fixtures congestion.

Another warm-up against Gabon will however proceed as scheduled on 4th June in Libreville.

The two matches were meant to ready the Chipolopolo for the upcoming 2019 African Cup of Nations qualifiers tie against Mozambique in Ndola on 10th June.

The 2002 champions are in group K of the qualifiers for the Cameroon edition alongside Guinea Bissau, Mozambique and Namibia.

The senior national team has three grueling competitions to engage in between June and July including the Afcon qualifiers, Cosafa Senior Challenge Cup and the African Nations Championship qualifiers.

“Some teams may have had to do without their key players for the league over three fixtures, had the national team gone ahead with its marathon camp,” a statement from FAZ, the Zambian FA states.

The Chipolopolo are currently in camp but will break off on Tuesday to allow some players feature for their clubs in Wednesday’s Super League matches.

Ethiopia will begin their 2019 Afcon campaign away to Ghana in group F on 11th June. The group also has Kenya and Sierra Leone
