ZAMBIA OUT BUT WITH DESERVED PRIDE

This is the first time I have watched Zambia national team of womwn perform to this level and they need to be appreciated to say the least. We have a bright future which we can all bank on and say there is light showing tomorrow.

They started the tournament on a high with that high scoring game against Equatorial Guinea before they were humbled by Nigeria and I thought it was an issue of over confidence after the first game. Nigeria have been doing this for a long time and it was always going to be tough. They made defensive errors in that game and didn’t deserve to win at the end.

That’s the game that knocked out Zambia and the last game needed a lot of permutations to qualify but knowing Nigeria was playing the weeping girls of the group, it juat wasnt possible for the girls to progress.

But then we played South Africa who eventually finished top of the group on 7 points and at large extents of that game, Zambia were excellent and they could have won it. The fighting spirit was evident to see and the belief of these girls is clear. Getting back to 1-1 after going down so early was a sign of strong character and that was a good goal.

Just as Sandra Mwila Siambelele analysed elsewhere, this is good for the nation and good going forward for women football. This performance will motivate many and we can only hope for far much better performances in the games to come.

Well done Girls
