Gor Mahia Brazialian head coach Jose Mercelo Ferreira “Ze Maria” has quit with immediate effect.

Ze Maria, who joined the 15-times Kenyan champions in March 2016 tendered in resignation letter to the club’s Chairman Ambrose Rachier today.

In the brief letter, the 1996 Olympic bronze medalist thanked the club for the opportunity to coach the biggest club in the country.

“I must also mention the great pride I had in training this giant club, the biggest in Kenya, where I had the privilege of winning some trophies, losing others, seeing so many young talents grow and seeing them play for the national team. Thank you very much for everything,” the letter reads in part.

The coach did not give any reasons for his abrupt decision, however, close sources intimated to Soka25east.com that the coach felt frustrated the club could not clear some of his dues.

Zico’s immediate task will be to prepare the team for Sunday’s league tie against Sofapaka in Meru, as the second leg of the Kenyan Premier League kicks-off this weekend.
