Zesco United Kenyan midfielder Anthony Akumu regrets missed chances in last night’s 1-0 loss to Al Hilal El Obied in the Confederations Cup group C tie at the Al Ubayyid Stadium, Sudan.

Ivorian Moukoro Cheikh netted the lone goal with panache four minutes to stoppage time – sending the full capacity stadium into ecstasy.

“We did not have a great start to the first half, but we later managed to come to the party. We got our chances especially in the second half but we couldn’t put them in. We are disappointed,” Akumu told Soka25east.

Akumu, 24, was returning to Sudan since leaving Al Khartoum for Zesco on a two-year-deal in 2015.

Despite the unpleasant return, Akumu, formerly of Gor Mahia in the Kenyan Premier League, is confident they will make amends in the remaining four matches of the group.

“We will take each game at a time,” the Kenyan international said.

The Ndola based side edged Smouha of Egypt 1-0 in their opening group match at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium, Ndola.

Smouha bounced back with a 2-0 win over Angola’s CRD Libolo leaving the wide open with each team having three points and are only separated on goal difference.

Zesco turn attention to the Zambian Super League week eight fixtures against defending Champions Zanaco in Ndola.
