Zesco United eased passed Konkola Blades Wednesday at the Levy Mwanawasa stadium to kick-start their 2017 Zambian Super League campaign on a high.

The tie was a rescheduled week one fixture since Zesco were engaged on the continental scene.
Zesco, 2015 champions and among 2017 title favorites went ahead through Lazarous Kambole’s header off Fackson Kapumbu’s cross on the stroke of half time.

Kenyan striker Jesse Were, who over the weekend scored a beautiful goal in Zesco’s 3-0 thumping of Nigerian side Enugu Rangers in the CAF Confederations Cup playoffs, missed a penalty in the 73rd after Idris Mbombo was pulled down in the forbidden area.

Idris took matters in his own hands two minutes later heading home Fackson’s second assist of the game to make it 2-0.

Zesco United sailed through to the group phase of the CAF Confederations Cup over the weekend after beating Enugu Rangers 5-2 on aggregate.
