Zimbabwe will look to secure a place at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations when they take on hosts Liberia in their penultimate Group G qualifier.

The match is set for the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex in Monrovia on Sunday, 18 November 2018, kick-off at 18h00 CAT.

The Zimbabwe senior men’s national soccer team, the Warriors are in Monrovia, ahead of Sunday’s 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier match against Liberia at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex.

ZIFA spokesperson, Xolisani Gwesela confirmed that the team arrived on Thursday  afternoon.

Gwesela also said only three players, captain Knowledge Musona, Marvellous Nakamba and Alec Mudimu are expected to arrive in Liberia tomorrow adding that the team will hold their first training session tomorrow.

Zimbabwe come into the match placed at the top of the standings with eight points from four matches. The Southern Africans hold a three-point lead over second-placed DR Congo, while both Congo and Liberia are just a point further back in third and fourth respectively.

A win in Monrovia will secure qualification for the Warriors, while a draw will also be enough if DR Congo fail to win away to Congo Brazzaville in the other Group G match (which will be played at the Stade Alphonse Massemba-Debat on Sunday, kick-off at 16h30 CAT).

Zimbabwe are in this strong position thanks to their excellent results in back-to-back matches against the Leopards last month: Sunday Chidzambwa’s side won 2-1 in Kinshasa and drew the return game 1-1 in Harare.

Liberia, meanwhile, are clinging on to their hopes of qualifying. Last month they suffered a 3-1 loss away to Congo Brazzaville, but beat the Red Devils 2-1 in the return game.

Zimbabwe are hoping to secure just their fourth AFCON qualification (but a second in succession), while Liberia have appeared in just two previous continental tournaments (1996 and 2002).

In head-to-head stats, Liberia and Zimbabwe have met in three previous matches according to FIFA’s statistics database. The Warriors boast an unbeaten record, with two wins and one draw from the trio of games.

The teams’ most recent meeting was in the first round of group stage qualifiers in June 2017, with Zimbabwe winning 3-0 at home thanks to a hat-trick from Knowledge Musona.

Senegalese referee Maguette N’Diaye will take charge of the match in Monrovia on Sunday.
