2022 WCQ: Rwanda fire 7 goals past hapless Seychelles

Rwanda Amavubi booked their spot in the second round of 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying with a thumping 7-0 (10-0 on aggregate) win over Seychelles at Stade Régional Nyamirambo in Kigali on Tuesday.

Amavubi recorded a 3-0 win over the same opponents in Victoria last week, and concluded the rout with a compressive win on home soil.

Meddie Kagere and Jacques Tuyisenge both scored a brace for the hosts before the hour mark, as Rwanda set their sights on the record 9-0 win they recorded against Djibouti 12 years ago.

Leading 4-0 at the interval, goals from Kagers and Yannick Mukunzi stretched Rwanda’s lead to 6-0 with 30 minutes of the game still remaining.

The hosts, though, could only add one more goal before the final whistle, as Muhadjiri Hakizimana – like Mukunzi and Kagere – found the back of the net for the second game running; scoring in the 79th minute.

Victory seals Rwanda’s place in the group stages, while Seychelles are left picking up the pieces once more.
