Advantage Chile after a 2-1 win over Cameroon in their first leg Olympic play-off encounter

The Indomitable Lionness of Cameroon have work to do as they head to the second leg of their Olympics play-offs on April 13, after a 2-1 defeat at the Arslan Zeki Demirci Stadium in Antalya, Turkey on Saturday.

Chile bagged two vital away goals and Cameroon will now hope to overturn the deficit to have any chance of qualifying for the Olympics for a second time.

La Roja Feminina broke the deadlock in the 25th minute courtesy of Camila Saez who headed in a Yessenia Lopez freekick. Saez capitalised on Cameroon’s defensive blunder as she went unmarked as the goalleeper failed to command her area.

Alan Djeumfa’s charges went in search of an equaliser but Christiane Endler’s expertly denied Mback Batoum and Gabrielle Ounguene from close range.

The hosts looked to the bench in the second half to help change the course of the game. Catherine Mbengono came in for Ngo Mback Batoum.

In the 74th minute, Chile doubled the lead from yet another set piece. Carla Guerrero took advantage of Cameroon’s poor defensive decisions but two minutes later, Ajara Nchout scored a consolation for her side.
