By Jafferson Ndhlovu,

Zimbabwe national soccer team to the turf this afternoon to open the journey to Cameroon in 2019.

The starts at 15.00hrs Zimbabwean time against Liberia.

Fellow group opponents Democratic Republic of Congo took leap to occupy the top spot in Group D after dispatching neighbours Congo via a 3-1 score line.

Zimbabwe and its opponents Liberia will be very much aware of the commanding start the DRC has posted.

The two sides will only be meeting for the third in their football histories.

Zimbabwe’s first ever meeting with Liberia was in 2010 during the qualifiers for the 2012 AFCON in Gabon, in which the two teams drew 1 all away in Liberia.

In the reverse fixture at the National Sports Stadium the venue of third meeting , Zimbabwe bullied Liberia 3-0. But those old stats gets thrown off the book immediately the referee signals the start of the long ninety minutes.

There is only one spot available in this group for the journey to Yaonde in early 2019. And one of the three best finishers in all 12 groups. The more reason catching the DRC makes this an interesting fight.

Coach Norman Mapeza could employ a 4-4-2 formation. Starting with George Chigova in goal.

Possible Warriors lineup…

Chigova, Eric Chipeta, Patson Jaure, Teenage Hadebe, Onismo Bhasera, Kuda Mahachi, Phiri, Marvellous Nakamba, Captain Knowledge Musona, Tendai Ndoro, Rusike
