CAF Champions League: Sammy Omollo to guide Gor against APR clash

by Agnes Amondi

Sammy ‘Pamzo’ Omollo will be the stand in coach for Gor Mahia when they travel to Rwanda to face APR for their CAF Champions League assignment penned for November 28.

This after CAF disqualified their Brazilian head coach Roberto Oliviera for not meeting the required qualification to lead the team in any CAF assignment.

Club Chairman Ambrose Rachier confirmed this development as he also revealed the club’s intention to have Oliviera acquire the necessary qualifications required by CAF.

“We have settled on Sammy Omollo to be the stand in coach for the team in Rwanda as we try to sort out the current coach’s (Roberto) issue with CAF. That means Sammy will lead the technical bench as Roberto is not allowed to be on the touchline until the issue is sorted” Rachier told the club’s website.

According to new regulations, CAF requires that head coaches involved in CAF competitions have a CAF A license, UEFA Pro license or a valid pro license from other confederations.

Oliveira holds a B license from the Brazilian Federation which is only an equivalent of a CAF C license.

The team is set to jet out this week for the CAF Champions League preliminary clash against APR in Kigali.
