Caps United unable to extend lead in Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League

By Jefferson Ndhlovu,

Zimbabwean Premier Soccer League is seemingly failing to unravel the clear cut potential champion for the 2019 season. The league that was not spared the luxury of rest due to Fifa international commitments by the authorities.

League leaders Caps United FC are now constantly failing in their quest to extend the lead at the top of the table, everytime their closest opponents falter they too are falling into the same course.

They were held to a 2all draw by Yadah Stars FC this afternoon noon in Harare

Their closest rivals that have a chance to pip them to the title also failed to collect maximum points yesterday.

Defending Champions Platinum FC drew nil all with Highlanders FC and Mandava Stadium in Zvishavane. While Chicken Inn drew 1all with coal miners Hwange FC in Zimbabwes second largest city Bulawayo.

United who lost respected gaffer Lloyd Chitembwe midway through the season to city rivals Harare City FC, and soccer prophets thought the club will struggle for consistency. But it was not the case.

With assistant coach Darlington Dodo being drafted in to takeover from the man he says, is an old friend and his mentor. Lost the first game in charge of the Green Machine. But things took a turn for good fortunes in the games that followed and looked like United were running away with the league.

The team began to post impressive results and claimed the driving seat on the table and they have not looked back since.

Meanwhile, Defending champion Platinum FC who equally had negative share in the coaching department as lost on of theirs in championship winning coach Norman Mapeza, who has since moved to South Africa to join Chippa United FC.

His assistant took over and again there were fears that Pure Platinum will falter but the team has held its own. And are now the group stages of CAF Champions League.

Chicken Inn has not been spared of disturbances in their coaching department in their quest to win the 2019 title. Their coach Joey Antipas has had to divide his time and skills in between coaching the club and the national team.
