Cardiff City’s Mayembe called up to Chipolopolo squad

Cardiff City midfielder Ntazana Mayembe has been called up to the Chipolopolo’s provisional squad for the June triple international friendlies against Senegal, Benin, and Sudan.

Coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic has called 36 players for the friendlies, with the 18-year-old Mayembe, who has previously represented both England and Wales at junior level making the cut for the first time in the Zambia setup.

Micho had also summoned Raith Rovers defender Frankie Musonda who has been ruled out due to injury as Zambia scours the globe to identify talent of Zambia descent in competitive leagues.

Missing out on this assignment are the Red Bull duo of Patson Daka and Enock Mwepu who are working out prospective moves in the aftermath of the 2021 season.

Newly signed Glasgow Rangers forward Fashion Sakala will be expected to hammer out the finer details of his grand move to Steven Gerrard’s Scottish giants.

Other first time call ups in the squad include Kitwe United’s Edward Lungu, and the Lusaka Dynamos duo of defender Gaboniso Magenge and midfielder Wisdom Moyela.

Israel based midfielder Lameck Banda is also in the squad, which also has Djurgardens duo of in-form striker Edward Chilufya and midfielder Emmanuel Banda.

Zambia will face Senegal in Thies on June 5 before taking a trip to the commercial city of Cotonou for a match against Benin three days later.

Micho’s side will wrap up their FIFA June International Window against Sudan in Omdurman on 11 June.
