Zambia took a commanding lead of Group B following a 3-1 win over highly rated Uganda in the Chan Championship match staged at Stade de Marrakech in Morocco on Sunday.

Goals from Zesco United’s duo, Fuckson Kapumbu and Lazarus Kambole as well Zanaco forward, Augustine Mulenga aided Zambia to a sweet victory over a low flying Ugandan Cranes to send Zambia top of the Group with three points.

Zambia dislodged Namibia to second in the group. Namibia had beaten Ivory Coast 1-0 in the first match of the group staged earlier in the day.

The game was reduced to a battle between two-bests early in the first half. On one half was the reigning Zambian Premier League Most Valuable Player, Lazarus Kambole and on the other half, the 2017 KCCA top scorer, Derrick Nsimbambi.

The marauding Zesco United striker gave the young Chipolopolo the lead with a debut goal for Zambia in the 38th minute, but Uganda erased the lead with an equalizer just two minutes later through workaholic Nsimbambi.

The KCCA striker, Nsimbambi, who has been on a good form with Ugandan Cranes ever since he made his National team debut last June, ensured that Uganda went to the break with a straight neck after the highly rated East African nation found themselves trailing just seven minutes to the break.

Nsimbambi, an out and out striker is best remembered for his maiden goal in Crane’s colours on 22nd July 2017 during the qualifiers against South Sudan at Lugogo stadium.

But with both teams sticking the feet on the gas pedal in search of the lead, Zaneco striker, Mulenga rose to the occasion with a 63-minute goal to restore Zambia’s lead.

Mulenga’s goal changed the complexion of the game, throwing a veil of confusion in Uganda’s squad, precisely at the backline.

Fuckson took advantage of Uganda’s low self-esteem to burry home a third in the 72 minute with 18-minute of a treacherous trek stil left on the clock to be covered by a weakling Cranes.

Zesco United forward tapped in after Uganda custodian, Benjamin Ochan fumbled with a long-range free-kick that sneaked past the two-man Ugandan wall into the weak hands of the eratic keeper who dropped the ball for an easy tap-in by the Zambian.

The win saw Zambia stretch their dominance over Uganda to six in seven meetings between the two countries since 2010.
