By Dom Agbakpe,

The Normalisation Committee Special Competition has officially been launched and is set to start on Sunday, March 31, 2019 across various centres across the country.

The event took place at the forecourt of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) in Accra.

The launch of the new tournament was due to be held on January 14, 2019 but could not happened as planned.

However, following the Premier League Clubs’ decision to boycott the tournament, the interim football body postponed the launch indefinitely.

With the intervention of the Parliamentary Committee for Sports and Culture, an agreement was reached with the Premier league clubs and the competition was launched on Monday, March 25, 2019.

Speaking at the launch, the chairman for the Normalisation Committee, Dr. Kofi Amoah, said,” Tonight’s gathering is indeed a refreshing moment for all stakeholders who have gathered here for official return of club after nearly 10 months of depressing hiatus following the infamous number 12 documentary on corruption in Ghana Football.”

“The immediate aftermath had a debilitating effect on Ghana Football leading to the near collapse of Ghana Football but for the timely intervention of His Excellency President Nana Addo,” the business magnate added.

“As you are aware the President effectively collaborated with FIFA resulting in the liaison team and subsequently the Normalisation Committee which has been given the mandate to come up with a clear roadmap and to resuscitate Ghana Football.”

The Normalisation Committee chairman also disclosed the financial packages for the competition.

“Each of the 64 participating premier league and division one clubs will receive GHc 30,000. The winner of the Tier 1 – Premier League Clubs – will take home GHc 200,000, the runner up will also take home GHc 100,000, the winner of Tier 2 – Division One Club – will take home GHc150,000, runner up GHc80,000.
