Kjell Jonevret was this morning appointed new manager of faltering Soweto giants Orland Pirates on a three-year-deal.

The Swede, 54, replaces caretaker coach Augusto Palacios, who has been in-charge since Mursin Ertugral quit November 2016, after a 6-1 hiding from Supersport United in the Premier Soccer League (PSL).

He will be assisted by Mamelodi Sundowns legend Harold Logendi, as Bradly Carnell is leaving for Europe.

“I am going to do what I normally do. I will continue with my philosophy. I have seen Pirates in the last couple of games,” the former Djurgardens IF gaffer talked of his plans for the Sea Robbers.

Jonevret bagged a double with Djurgardens IF in 2005 – winning the “Allsvenskan” and the Swedish Cup.

He takes over a Pirates side short of self-belief. The Bucs have only won four times in 17 league encounters, and are currently placed 10th in the title race.

Dr. Irvin Khoza, the Pirates honcho, assured unwavering support for the new technical bench to ensure they regain their competitive edge.

“We will do everything possible to make sure Coach Kjell Jonevret hits the ground running,”Khoza assured.

He added, “The immediate challenges on the new coach Kjell Jonevret will be stabilize the team, and bring back the confidence of the players.”

The new man is however unlikely to be on the bench when Pirates host Polokwane City on Saturday as he is still without a work permit.
