Nigerian forward Desire Oparanozie leaves Guingamp as contract expires

French Women’s Division 1 Féminine (D1F) side En Avant Guingamp have parted ways with Nigeria international Desire Oparanozie after her contract with the club expired.

All the remaining fixtures of the league were cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic which brought to an end her six year association with the Britanny based club.

The 26-year-old joined the Division 1 Feminine side in 2014 from Turkish women’s top-flight side Ataşehir Belediyespor in 2014.

Oparanozie notched more than 45 goals in 106 appearances at Guingamp, and was named captain for the 2019-20 season, leading them to a French Women’s Cup semi-final before the league was haulted due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

She isn’t the only player who will not be returning to Guingamp for the 2020-21 season. Reportedly, the club has also parted ways with five other players as the club decided against renewing their contracts.

The five are: goalkeeper Manon Toti, defender Juliette Merle, midfielder Ekaterina Tyryshkina, central defender Carlin Hudson, and goalkeeper Agathe Fauvel.

Oparanozie is expected to secure a new club in the coming weeks following her exploits last season in France, where she scored six goals in 12 matches.
