john koopBy Maxwell Wasike,
Controversy at the den continued when Matthew Opwora led team unveiled former Afc Leopards head coach Jan Koops as Ingwe tactician a head of 2015 Kenya Premier League season set to kick off next month.
This comes four days after Saturday incident at Railways Club which saw members of the team endorse Opwora led line up to take over the club on the grounds that the team ceased to exist after Alan Kasavuli failed to comply with 2013 Sports Act by applying for new registration.
’’Our committee today has brought on board Jan Koops to take over as head coach. He’ll be assisted by the current assistant coach Yusuf Chipo. This is in readiness for the upcoming KPL season’’
The Dutchman who parted company with Leopards in 2012 has promised to instill a sence of discipline and mentality in the team as he seeks to revive the lost glory of the team which has won Kenya Premier League title 13 times.Koops said that the quality of players at the den is amazing and if properly motivated, his charges can be inspired to a title crown this coming season.
’’AFC Leopards has quality players and all they need is proper coaching skills.I seek to inject both discipline and mentality in the squad. This can help boys win the league’’
On his part organising Secreatry Noah Wanyama, father Southampton midfielder and Harambee Stars captain Victor Mugubi insisted they are legitimately in office since they were chosen by members who form an integral part of the team.
’’We’re in the office genuinely because its members who preferred us at their expense. The suspension is null and void’’
Opwora further requested Kasavuli led team to vacate office and surrender everything associated with the team to them as its Kenya National Sports Council which ruled they ceased to exist by sticking to 1964 Societies Act at the expense of new law.
’’We therefore appeal to former office to leave office and surrender everything to us.We want to start preparations of revamping the team a head of next KPL league’’
Their new assignment will be to register members and carry out fair player recruitment countrywide especially at the grassroot where they believe there’s a lot of untapped potential.
