Barely a week after his appointment as the interim Rwanda national team Coach, taking over from Irishman Johnny McKinstry who was sacked Thursday 18, Gilbert Kanyankore Yaounde has been also been dismissed.

“True, I don’t have the job no more, I received a call from the Ministry of sports telling me they have given the duty to another person,” Yaounde told Soka25east.com from Rwanda.

No reason

Asked why the swift decision, the 63-year old said;

“I don’t know, they didn’t give me a reason. I will now concentrate with being APR Coach.” He replied.

Just two days back, the APR FC manager named “Amavubi” team for AFCON 2017 qualifier away to Ghana early September, a squad heavily criticised for being dominantly APR. In the team of 26,ten were from the league champions hence raising eyebrows.

Jimmy Mulisa, who worked under McKinstry as an assistant and was appointed alongside Yaounde, is poised to ascend to the top job.

However contacted for response, the Rwandan legend said, it’s not official yet.

“I’m waiting for a call from the ministry, I have not been handed the job still.”

The 32-year old former Sunrise FC Coach is bullish he can do the job if given the opportunity, owing to his vast experience in the game, more so as a professional player.

“I have been in this game for very long, and I have been a Coach for the past two years, so yes, I can handle Amavubi well,”

“Coaching the national team is a great honor that is every coach’s dream, so if I land it, I would take it with both hands.” The assistant Technical director at FERWAFA added.

Mulisa is one of the most celebrated former footballers in Rwanda, he was among the golden generation that graced the first ever AFCON 2014 in Tunisia.

His senior playing career started with APR in 2002-2005 as a striker before moving to Belgium and later India in his chequered career.
