Schalke defender Salif Sane has revealed that the Senegal camp is full of confidence ahead of this summer’s World Cup in Russia.

The showpiece starts on July 14, with the Lions of Teranga kicking off their campaign five days later against Poland at Spartak Stadium.

And according to Sane the team is well prepared for the match and he is ready to stop Polish danger man Lewandowski, basing on the matches he has played against the Bayern Munich star at Bundesliga.

“I have already played Lewandowski (four times), so I know how to handle him. I do not mind playing in central defense,” said Sane in an interview as translated from French.

“Versatility is a quality, an asset for me. All positions to which the coach will put me, I will do my best.

“Everyone is ready to play against Croatia, South Korea and the World Cup. Everyone is in shape.”

Born in France to Senegalese parents and capped 14 times by Senegal, Sane has become a regular fixture under coach Aliou Cisse.

He is expected to be among the key players that will shine for Lions of Teranga in Russia where Senegal are placed in Group H of the competition.

Senegal’s potent blend of defensive solidity and attacking pace could cause serious problems for even the best teams they could face in the knockout stage if they finish in top two.

Replicating that famous quarter-final run of Japan and South Korea is definitely not out of the question.
