SuperSport United off to winning start against Black Leopards

SuperSport United registered their first home win of the inaugural DStv Premier Soccer League (PSL) season against the Limpopo based side Black Leopards on Saturday night. The match was held at a rainy Lucas Moripe Stadium in Tshwane.

United made their intentions clear in the beginning of the match with strong wind and rain disturbing the flow of the game. There was a stoppage in play the match officials waited for the storm to subside.

After a period of time the march resumed with the two sides still goalless.

In the 24th minute midfielder Teboho Mokoena laid a clever pass to Jamie Webber who sent a brilliant delivery to Bradley Grobler who wonderfully netted home.

In the 38th minute defender Bongani Khumalo made a brilliant clearance as Leopards’ Nyundu was ready to pounce on the right side.

Three minutes before the break, Mokoena’s beautifully taken free-kick rattled the crossbar as Leopards keeper looked well beaten.

The halftime score was 1-0 to SuperSport.

In the 60th minute Onismor Bhasera was sent off after receiving second yellow card as Matsatsantsa are reduced to 10 men.

After the home side was reduced to 10 men, Leopards started putting pressure to SuperSport but their defence held on to deny them scoring chances.

In the 71st minute Kuda Mahachi came off the bench for Iqraam Rayners who debuted for United last weekend in the MTN8 Cup quarterfinal against new comers TTM FC.

In the 77th minute Leopards put some more pressure as Khumalo cleared the ball and the visitors won a corner-kick.

Four minutes later it was still Khumalo who put some sterling defensive performances as Leopards were pushing for a goal.

Three minutes before the end of the match Ndlovu’s low shot on the left was brilliantly saved by United skipper Williams.

In the referee’s optional time Daniels put his body on the line as he blocked a long range shot to clear the danger.

A minute later, Tebogo Sodi’s header went wide in what was supposed to be Leopards’ consolation goal.

Subsequenlty, Grobler hit the final nail into the coffin in added time of the 90th minute with a stunning strike as he completed his brace after receiving a brilliant delivery from midfielder Mokoena.

Meanwhile Grobler won the DStv man of the match award after putting some brilliant performances on the night.
