WAFU Women’s Zone A 2020: Liberia clinch third place after a narrow 1-0 against Cape Verde

Liberia finished third in the West Africa Football Union (WAFU) tournament that draws to a close today (Saturday) after they won the penultimate match against Cape Verde 1-0 in the Wusum Mini Stadium.


Angeline Kieh netted the only goal of the match for Liberia in the 59th minute to seal a third place finish. 


Liberia were grouped alongside Mali, Gambia and Guinea Bissau in group B. They clinched the semi final place after they edged Gambia 2-1 and then lost to Senegal with the same scoreline.


Meanwhile Cape Verde we’re drawn in group A together with Senegal, Sierra Leone and Guinea. They capitalized on the hosts (Sierra Leone) draw with Senegal to get to the last four where Mali beat them by 4-0.


The final will be between Senegal and Mali to determine the winner of the tournament.
