It’s first time for Young Green Buffaloes

Who could have written this script when the draws for the 2018 Barclay’s Cup edition was made.

Against all odds and different permutations , Young Green Buffaloes are potential champions of the Barclay’s Cup after outing their seniors in Green Buffaloes 4-3 on penalty shoot out, to see up a final with Kitwe Giants.

This is only the second time in the history of this competition for a division one side to go all the way to the finals. The first time this happened was during the first edition in 2007 when Chambishi played Zesco United in the finals only to lose on penalty shoot outs.

All the two semi finals played at Woodlands stadium needed penalty shoot outs to decide the final. Nkana too needed the lottery of penalties to overcome Power Dynamos in the second semi final which saw everyone that people look out for at football matches.

This will be the first final for Young Green Buffaloes and though Nkana has also played one final in the Barclays Cup, they are yet to win this one and they will buoyed

Semi final victories for both Young Green Buffaloes and Nkana mean that there will be a new name engraved on the trophy. The winner will join other boast winners which include Zesco United (5), Power Dynamos (2) and the rest Napsa Stars, Red Arrows , Green Buffaloes and Zanaco have won it once.

The final is set for 10th November  2018.
